Dis-lo-ca-tion [Noun]Inspired by the word Dislocation , the challenge of Contemporary Quilt 2014.
The work is based on research by Cambridge University into the fact that as long as the first and last letters of each word are in the correct place our minds will read the text. So, the letters in the words are 'out of place' or dislocated. The background has been screen printed with dictionary definitions of the word Dislocation. The letters are laser cut from hand dyed fabric by Freda Anderson and are fused with Heat 'n Bond Ultra Machine quilted. 120cm x 40cm 2014 Footnote: I have since learnt that there was no research by Cambridge University but it still makes for a bit of fun. |
