Cry of the Kalahari
1995 Made after a class with Pauline Burbidge. I wanted to see if I could create a design that metamorphosed across the quilt. The intention was to portray the wet and dry seasons in Africa and the migration of animals to find water. In the top left corner there is plenty of water but it slowly dries up towards the bottom right. 'Hidden' in the tan areas are free machine embroidered animals and insects that would be found in the Kalahari. As in real life they are camoflaged in their natural surroundings. See details below.
